Monona is a city in Dane County. The population was 8,046 as of 2007. It is completely surrounded by Madison and is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area. By the 1980s, there was no additional land available for city annexation so Monona became landlocked by the City of Madison and by bodies of water.

It is about 3274 acres with 13 miles of shoreline; 40% publically owned. Lake Monona offers local residents boating and fishing amenities making the Town of Monona a desired place to live.

 

The City of Monona has been working to find the most suitable ways to develop and redevelop the area along the Broadway Corridor: The River Place, Pier 37, and Ahuska Park developments are the result of these efforts.
